The last year at CDNify has been a bit of an intense roller coaster. Growing a business from the ground up is not easy, but it’s an incredibly rewarding experience.
Since I’ve joined the team has doubled in size and in order to keep up with customer demand we are now looking to take on a new Developer Evangelist to work alongside our dev team: Nick, John, Ross, and Ben.
As the Developer Evangelist is a relatively new role and not a position you normally see people advertising for outside of London, we’ve decided that to really get the best person for this role we are going to need to train them ourselves.
So we’ve decided to team up with Hyper Island and take part in their Digital Apprentice Scheme.
Skills are as important to us as cultural fit. Whilst skills can always be taught, being able to thrive in an environment with a flat structure (i.e. no managers) is not necessarily to everyone’s taste. Of course you’ll be learning so we’ll help you get up to speed with how we work, but the development team at CDNify are responsible for managing their own workflow and communicating this to the Marketing and Support teams.
If you’ve not heard of Hyper Island before then check out this taster video:

As a graduate of Hyper Island I can’t enthuse about their methodologies enough. Taking part in the Interactive Media Management course has set me on the path I am currently on and has been the most beneficial career move I have ever made.
The successful candidate will join us for the next year whilst also receiving on the job training from Hyper Island. So you would spend the majority of your time working with our current dev team, whilst having regular sessions with Hyper Island and your fellow Apprentices from the course.

It’s going to be a really flexible role, with the successful candidate splitting their time across development and marketing. So one day you might be building product features or writing documentation for our soon to be released API, the next day you might be attending a hackathon or a web performance meet up.
Either way you will be learning a lot and working with a cutting edge tech stack.
On the front-end we use a node.js build process that includes bower for managing dependencies like bootstrap and jquery, gulp.js for asset concatenation, minification, and compiling SASS files to CSS.
On the back-end we use a combination of PHP and Symfony for the build, Memcached, Nginx, and Resque for performance and a combination of MongoDB and MySQL for persistence.
Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of all of these or if you’re not sure whether you would rather be a FE or BE dev, we’ll teach you what you need to know and help you define the right path for you.
So if you think this sounds interesting and you want to be part of CDNify then head on over to the Hyper Island site and sign up for the Apprentice Scheme today.
